Latest News from the Premier league – Samba moving to his own beat

Samba wants out at Rovers

  • Christopher Samba, the Blackburn Rovers captain, has handed in a transfer request at the club following the sacking of Sam Allardyce – “If this is the way the club’s going to be run from now on, I don’t want to be part of it and I want to leave,” Samba told The Sun.                                                                                                                      “As captain it’s very difficult to say this but I’ve thought long and hard about it. Nobody in football understands the decision to sack Sam.”

Spurs Jonathan Woodgate - In case you had forgotten

  • Tottenham Hotspur’s forgotten man Jonathan Woodgate is back in training and the centre-half is aiming to play before the end of the season. The 29 year-old has stepped up his rehabilitation from a long standing groin injury.
  • Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is optimistic that defender Steven Taylor will sign a new contract at the club in the next week.
  • And Finally, in Italy, Rafa Benitez has been told that he is no longer required at Internazionale after his outburst following the club’s victory in the Club World Cup. Benitez, whose Inter side lie 13 points behind rivals AC Milan in the Serie A table, had told owner Massimo Moratti to back him in the transfer market or sack him.

I guess Moratti wasn’t too impressed with the job the former Liverpool boss was doing.
