Transfer News – January 12

The latest transfer news from England, and a little from Spain..

Jean Makoun - Bound for Villa?

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is hopeful of completing a £6m deal for Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun. The Cameroon international, signed two years ago by Les Gones for £11m, has fallen out of favour at the French club.

“He can play as a holding midfielder or as a box-to-box player. He can be both. We are working on it. All you can say is there is dialogue going on at the moment,” confirmed Houllier.

Villa have also returned to Blackpool with an improved £3.5m bid for skipper Charlie Adam, and had an offer that Barry Fry deemed “insulting” rejected for Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

Wayne Bridge, the Manchester City left-back, has completed his loan move to West Ham United, until the end of the season.

According to BBC Radio Stoke, Stoke City are lining up a £2.5m deal for Villa centre-back Curtis Davies.

Championship side Leicester City are set to complete a season-long loan deal for Everton striker Yakubu.

David Moyes, the Everton boss, has dismissed, out-of-hand, rumours that captain Phil Neville could be bound for Tottenham Hotspur.

Fabio Coentrao

Some news from Spain

It’s been reported by Marca, the Madrid-based Spanish newspaper, that Fabio Coentrao is bound for a summer move to Real Madrid.

The highly-rated, left-sided Portugese international, is being linked with a €20m switch from Benfica to the Bernabeu.

And finally, Valencia hope to complete a €4m deal for Almeria’s highly-rated Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves tomorrow.
