Jean Makoun, the Cameroon international, has completed a £6m move from Olympique Lyonnais to Aston Villa.
The destructive midfielder, 27, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Villa Park.
He told the club website: “I am proud to have joined a great club.
“Villa have been after me for quite a while so I’m delighted it’s finally happened.”
Makoun made 105 appearances for Lyon, memorably scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid at the Stade Gerland in last season’s Champions League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have revealed that on-loan Michael Mancienne, 23, will remain at the club until the end of the season.
The England under-21 international, on-loan from Premier League champions Chelsea, did have a January recall in his contract at Molineux, but Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has decided not to exercise the clause.
“He’s not been recalled and he’s ours until the end of the season” revealed Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.
“That’s good news – But it will be even better when he’s fit. He’s undergoing rehab and will be out for a total of six weeks.”
That means Mancienne, who injured his knee in Wolves 3-0 defeat at Blackburn on 4 December, could return to the first team picture at Molineux by the end of the month.
