Talk about a resurrection.
A deal that looked dead just days ago has been revived, and sees Chelsea splash upwards of £20m on Benfica’s Brazilian defender David Luiz.
AS Bola claims that Chelsea have paid €20m up front for the player, and the fee could rise by €5m depending upon the defender’s achievements.
Luiz, 23, who is capable of playing not only in the centre of defence but also as a full-back on either side, has made 70 appearances for Benfica in the Liga Sagres, scoring four goals, whilst he also has four caps for Brazil.
Nemanja Matic, Chelsea’s young Serbian midfielder, who has been unable to make the transition from reserve to first team football at stamford Bridge, will move to Benfica as part of the deal, however he will only make the move to Lisbon in the summer.
