Everton beat Chelsea on penalties to win replay

Everton will meet Reading in the FA Cup 5th round, after beating Chelsea 4-3 on penalties – 1-1 after extra time – at Stamford Bridge in their 4th round replay.

Frank Lampard put Chelsea in front

A tight match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, but sprang to life in extra-time as the game became stretched, and Frank Lampard put Chelsea in front, converting a Didier Drogba knockdown from close range.

However, with 119 minutes played, a stunning free-kick from Leighton Baines put Everton level and took the game to spot-kicks.

Baines soon went from hero to villain, as his spot-kick was saved by Petr Cech, but a poor penalty saw Nicolas Anelka miss for Chelsea also.

Ashley Cole, Chelsea’s fifth and final penalty taker blazed his kick high, wide and not so handsome, leaving Phil Neville, the Everton captain, to convert the winning kick for the Toffees.
