Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal captain, will miss Sunday’s League Cup final against Birmingham City at Wembley, due to the hamstring injury sustained in Wednesday night’s Premier League win over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium.
Fabregas limped off after just 14 minutes of the match, and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that the Spanish World Cup winner will miss Sunday’s match.
“It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday,” Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.
“He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we help him now is to win the Carling Cup as he contributed a lot in this competition.”
However, whilst Fabregas will miss the match, three of Arsenal’s senior players will be fit to participate at Wembley.
French duo Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby, and crucially Dutch striker Robin van Persie have all been passed fit for the final.
“All the three will be available. That’s the good news. And everybody else [except the already ruled out Theo Walcott] is all right from the Stoke game too.”
