Cheik Tiote, the Newcastle United midfielder, has put pen to paper on a new 6-year deal at St. James’ Park, that will boost the highly-rated midfielder’s earnings up to £50k per week.
Tiote arrived in the summer from Dutch champions FC Twente, formerly managed by Steve McClaren, for the modest fee of £3.5m.
And his outstanding, consistent performances at the heart of the Newcastle midfield have made him a fans favourite on Tyneside, and alert other clubs to his potential.
The Ivory Coast international recently scored his first goal for the club, a stunning 25-yard volley to level the scores as Newcastle came back from four goals down to equalise against Arsenal, and Toon boss Alan Pardew is delighted to have retained the 24-year-old.
“Cheik is exactly the type of player I want in my squad. He is fantastic on the pitch and in the changing room,” said Pardew.
“He offers us strength and presence in midfield and has proved himself to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League.
“He’s adapted brilliantly to the English game and I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal with us.”
