Robin van Persie to miss Barcelona trip

Arsenal forward Robin van Persie will miss his clubs second round second leg Champions League tie with Barcelona after being ruled out for three weeks with a knee injury, sustained when scoring in the League Cup Final defeat against Birmingham City.

Robin van Persie - Out of Barcelona trip

The Dutch striker has been in scintillating form since the start of 2011 with 13 goals in 11 matches for the Gunners, but now Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger must do without him when they visit the Camp Nou to take on Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arsenal head to Catalunya holding onto a 2-1 lead from the first leg, but must now do without both van Persie and Theo Walcott who is also injured, whilst captain Cesc Fabregas is also not 100% fit.

“Unfortunately, we had bad news on the scan and he will be out for the next three weeks for sure,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.

“It could be longer. The shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks [so] he is definitely out for Barcelona.”
