Injuries hit Gerrard, Nani and Szczesny

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Manchester United’s Portugese winger Nani and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny have all been ruled out of action today due to various injuries.

Liverpool skipper Gerrard has undergone groin surgery which will keep the England midfielder out of action for upto a month. He will therefore miss the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on March 26.

Manchester United winger Nani, who has been outstanding for the Red Devils this season, will be out for three weeks due to the leg injury sustained in a challenge by Jamie Carragher during last weeks 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.

He will definitely miss the FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal tomorrow, and the UEFA Champions League second round match against Marseille on Tuesday.

“It is difficult to say exactly when he will be ready to return but we won’t get him back for the Bolton match next Saturday,” boss Sir Alex Ferguson said.

“We’ve managed to stitch it, which is great news. What we’re guarding against, of course, is infection.”

Arsenal’s young Polish goalkeeper Szczesny, injured during his sides Champions League defeat by Barcelona on Tuesday evening, will be out for six weeks with a dislocated finger.
