Two goals for David Villa in Spain’s Euro 2012 qualifier against the Czech Republic have taken him to 46 goals for his country, making him their record goalscorer.
Trailing 1-0 Villa struck twice in the space of four second-half minutes, meaning that in 72 matches for the national side, Villa has 46 goals, two more than Real Madrid legend Raul.
From humble beginnings at Sporting Gijon, to Real Zaragoza, Valencia and at present Barcelona, it has taken the world a long time to take notice of Villa, now 28.
But if there is a more clinical finisher in world football, I haven’t seen them – right foot, left foot, headers, in the six-yard box, outside the penalty area, hit with power, hit with precision it doesn’t matter. Villa has and always will guarantee goals.
El Guaje (the Kid) has scored 15 goals a least in each of the last 10 seasons in La Liga, was the top scorer at both Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup and has over 300 goals in his career for both club and country.
David Villa, Football24Seven salutes you.
