Scott Parker makes deadline day switch to Spurs

Scott Parker - Joining Tottenham Hotspur

After the 5-1 home humbling by Manchester City on Sunday, when a midfield comprising wantaway Luka Modric and Croatian compatriot Niko Kranjcar were torn to pieces by Roberto Mancini’s men, Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has pounced to sign Footballer of the Year Scott Parker from West Ham United for a fee in the region of £6m.

The move comes after the 30-year-old handed in a transfer request on Tuesday, stating that he wished to play in the Premier League, and his signature should see Wilson Palacios, the Honduran international, leave White Hart Lane for Stoke City.

A Tottenham statement said: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with West Ham United for the permanent transfer of Scott Parker.”

Elsewhere, Joe Cole, after a nightmare year at Liverpool, has left Anfield for a season-long loan deal to Lille, whilst Arsenal have responded to their decimation by Manchester United on Sunday (8-2) by signing 75-cap German defender Per Mertesacker and Brazilian international left-back Andre Santos, from Werder Bremen and Fenerbache respectively.
